Olivia rodrigo at a pinch moment. The singer of the “driving license” is not only at the origin of the song number one in the world, she also receives the support of her idols, in particular Taylor Swift.
“It’s kinda weird loving growing up and having all of these projections on you about who you are and the characters you play… and lately it’s been so cool because I really feel like it for being introduced to people for who I really am who is a songwriter ”, the High School Musical: The Musical: The Series actress, 18 years old, shared with Ryan seacrest on air Wednesday March 3. “And my song is very vulnerable, and I put so much of myself into it, so it’s really cool that it resonates with people because I feel like it’s such a good representation of who I am.” am as a human being and that is really great.
One of those people happens to be Swift, whom Olivia idolized.
“I am so in awe of her constantly and I really wouldn’t be the songwriter that I am today if I hadn’t grown up being so inspired by everything she does, so having her support really means the whole world, ”Olivia added, revealing that Swift contacted personally. “Taylor actually sent me a letter that I opened last night. Like a handwritten letter because it’s amazing. She is out of this world.
Fellow artists, including Niall horan and Phoebe bridgers also contacted Olivia, offering advice.
“It’s so crazy to me that these people I admired are now my peers,” she added, revealing that it’s also the ordinary people who resonate with the song that excites her the most.
“It’s the cool thing like so many people have come up to me [and been like] ‘I listened to this song and it brought me back to that time of my life when I was heartbroken.’ “Olivia continued.” It’s the biggest dream as a songwriter to be able to transport someone from one place in their life to a whole different place and entirely different emotion.
Olivia continued that “the craziest thing” about all of this is that she was stuck in her house “while this was all going on” because of COVID-19.
“So it was a strange experience,” she admitted. “It’s hard to understand the numbers. … It’s times when I got my nose rubbed in one of the COVID testing locations and they were playing my song on the radio. … It’s times like that with real people like who are really affected by the song that really touches me.
So what about his next album?
“It’s inevitable to feel pressure after a song # 1.… But, at the end of the day, I love songwriting and I still have it and I don’t really write songs for it. take them out or hopefully get them on the charts. I really write songs because I love to write songs, so I hope I will do it forever.
