Olivia Rodrigo revealed that Taylor Swift sent her a ring matching the one she wore at the time of her 2012 album ‘Red’, along with many other freebies.
Rodrigo, whose hit ‘Driving License’ is approaching its eighth week atop the UK Singles Chart, spoke of his admiration for Swift during an appearance on SiriusXM on Wednesday, March 3.
“She’s absolutely the nicest person in the world,” Rodrigo said. “In fact, last night, being literally 12 hours ago, I received a package from her with this handwritten note.
“She gave me this ring because she said she wears one like her when she wrote ‘Red’ and wanted me to have one like this. And [also] like all of these amazing things, she wrapped these gifts by hand.
“I really don’t understand where she is finding the time,” Rodrigo continued, showing the ring to the camera. “I feel so lucky to be born at the right time to be able to admire someone like her. I think she’s amazing.
“All of her support, her genuine compassion and enthusiasm for me has been so, so surreal.”
The ring in question is a yellow gold ‘Love’ ring from Los Angeles jeweler Cathy Waterman and is worth $ 3,200 (£ 2,315). Swift frequently wore a diamond-embellished version during the “Red” campaign.
Swift’s habit of sending lavish personal gifts to fans is well known. Last September, for example, she sent a handwritten congratulatory letter and personalized gifts to a lucky fan to celebrate the end of her doctorate.
In December, meanwhile, she donated $ 13,000 (£ 10k) each to two mothers who were struggling to pay rent and bills owed to Covid-19.
Last month, Rodrigo shared a playlist of 18 songs to mark his 18th birthday. In addition to Swift, it includes models such as Fiona Apple, Black Sabbath, and The White Stripes.
