Eddie Hearn hilariously compared Oleksandr Usyk’s costume at Thursday’s press conference to the Joker – and was on hand – and said the Ukrainian wanted to play mind games.
Usyk is set to face Anthony Joshua at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday night, with the British heavyweight putting all three titles on the line.
The 34-year-old Ukrainian was the undisputed cruiserweight champion before moving to heavyweight.
The two fighters will face each other during the weigh-in on Friday, where their highly modified physique will be fully revealed before the fight.
But the mind game really started at Thursday’s press conference, where Usyk introduced himself as the Clown Prince of Crime and tried to get into AJ’s head.
That’s according to Hearn, who exclusively told talkSPORT Breakfast on Friday: “He’s a terrible rascal – he came in dressed as a Joker!”
“A lot of it is mind games with Usyk.
“He’s a strange man, but he wants people to think he’s that character in psychoanalysis and that he can get into your mind and play with you in the ring.
“And to be honest, he’s pretty scary, because he seems to have no fear.
“I think when it comes out on Saturday.
“When you look at his exploits as a cruiserweight, he went to Germany to beat Marco Huck, to Latvia to beat Mairis Briedis, to Russia to beat Murat Gassiev, he came to Manchester to beat Tony Bellew, then back to the UK to beat Derek Chisora.
“So he traveled.
“But these AJ parties are a little different. These aren’t just standard arena nights, the intensity is on another level.
“So you’re going to see a top heavyweight game on Saturday.”
Hearn also warned that it will be a tough test against Usyk, who also won a gold medal at the 2012 Olympics.
He said: “AJ is the bigger guy and he’s got about four inches of reach on him, but he has to get his hands on Usyk.
“He’s got to give him a cut, body, arms, head, wherever he can because once Usyk gets in his rhythm he’s a very, very difficult man to beat.
“You have to be careful with someone like Usyk.
”The last man you want to get along with is Usyk. Use your height, use your speed… you don’t have to be reckless, but every time he comes near him he has to nail him, he has to slow Usyk’s feet down, he has to take his heart and in the end, it has to beat it – that’s what the game is all about. “
