Oleksandr Usyk hopes for undisputed matchup with Tyson Fury, but otherwise wants ‘risky’ fight with Deontay Wilder

There won’t be any easy keys in the near future for Oleksandr Usyk as he targets either Tyson Fury or Deontay Wilder next.

Usyk is coming off two tremendous victories over Anthony Joshua which saw him win and then defend the unified WBA, WBO and IBF world heavyweight titles.

Often in boxing, the champions will then defend their titles against a few lesser opponents, just to avoid risking losing their belt right away, but not Usyk.

The Ukrainian wants to go straight into an undisputed clash with WBC champion Tyson Fury early next year.

“I hope everything will line up [with the Fury fight] and we will see,” Usyk manager Egis Klimas told talkSPORT.

“I hear [Fury] wants to fight on December 3, which is not a big problem for us.

“But, on the other side, it’s boxing and things happen, breaking hands, legs and stuff like that, so it’s hard to predict, but fingers crossed we’ll be ready.

“On our side, we’re going to be 100% ready, so if the fight doesn’t happen, don’t blame our team.”

Klimas also revealed the potential venue for the fight, as he said, “As for the venue, of course we’re talking about Saudi Arabia because that’s where the last fight was.

“I think everything went very well and it was very well organized and we are ready to go back.”

Boxing is an unpredictable sport, however, and so it’s important for fighters to have contingency plans, and in Usyk’s case, Klimas had said that if he couldn’t get Fury next, then he wanted to fight. former WBC champion Deontay Wilder.

“It’s a very possible fight,” Klimas said, “and actually, [Usyk] called and said, “If Fury’s not available and we can’t fight Fury, I’d like to fight Deontay Wilder”.

“So I asked him why and he said, ‘because he’s a risky fighter and I like that’.”
