Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says “it is a privilege” to manage his current Manchester United team after beating Man City 2-0 on Sunday.

Anthony Martial and Scott McTominay’s goals extended the Red Devils’ undefeated streak to 10 games in all competitions.

United last tasted at Burnley on January 22, which put pressure on Solskjaer.

However, United appear to be taking a turn and are only three points behind Chelsea, fourth, with an FA Cup quarter-final against Norwich to look forward to.

Solskjaer told talkSPORT: “I’ve just watched the process we have to go through to bring Man United higher on the table in my eyes.

“I just make decisions with the club that I think are fair. The connection between fans and players is there.

“They can see what type of player I want at the club – they work hard, they are skillful, there is rhythm and they are fantastic guys.

“They are great human beings, you should have seen them yesterday with the under 12s, there was a memorial festival in Carrington [the club’s training ground] and the boys are simply first class.

“It is a privilege to manage them.”

Man City goalkeeper Ederson was at fault for both goals, letting a martial volley slip under him, before inadvertently throwing the ball at McTominay.

But Solskjaer refused to blame Ederson for the opening game when he praised Martial’s shot on a smart free kick from Bruno Fernandes.

He said, “Sometimes you have to hit the target and create moments to score goals. You cannot ask the guards to save everything.

“It was a good volley, a great invention of Bruno, he is just this type of player and we give him this freedom to make his own opinion and to make his own decisions and it was not bad.”
