October 2, 2022 – Western Hockey League (WHL) – Edmonton Oil Kings Press Release
Prince Albert, SK – The Edmonton Oil Kings lost 5-1 to the Prince Albert Raiders on Saturday night at the Art Hauser Center to kick off their 6-game road trip.
The Oil Kings came out with plenty of jumps in the opening faceoff, but despite having a 6-3 advantage early on the shots, they were unable to overcome Prince Albert goaltender Tikhon Chaika.
The Raiders opened the scoring at 7:28 of the first period, which then opened the floodgates as they would score three times in 2:24.
First, Cole Peardon converted his first career WHL goal on a two-for-one setup from Dallyn Peekeekoot, followed by a breakaway goal from Keaton Sorenson and a perfect goal in front of the net by Anton Yatsyshin.
Before the end of the period, Sorenson buried his second of the night on a Raider power play to give the home side a 4-0 lead going into the first intermission.
In the second period, the Raiders looked to build on their lead by shooting 14 Alex Worthington-style shots, but the Edmonton freshman had the answer for all of them.
The Oil Kings went on the board shorthanded with just 3:28 left in the second after Marshall Finnie stole a puck from his own blue line, ran the length of the ice and used a Prince Albert defender as a screen as he fired home his first career WHL goal from the top of the right circle.
In the third period, the only infraction would be a Raiders power play goal from Ryder Ritchie to give Prince Albert the 4-goal decision.
Worthington and Kolby Hay combined for 28 saves for the Oil Kings, while Chaika made 24 saves for the Raiders. Edmonton went 0-for-4 on the power play, Prince Albert was 2-for-6.
Next, the Oil Kings will set off on their road trip to the American Division beginning Friday, October 7 in Spokane when they take on the Chiefs at 8:05 p.m. MT. You can listen to all Oil Kings games live at oilkings.ca/radio.
