AMD Radoen RX 7900 shown alongside much thicker RTX 40 GPUs
AMD RDNA3 desktop cards have now been photographed and filmed up close.
It’s time to hit up your favorite YouTuber or website for an initial presentation of the Radeon RX 7900 series. AMD has just lifted the content unboxing embargo, which means reviewers and influencers can now show off their samples in detail. What they can’t show yet are their performance numbers or tearing down the cards.
Most, if not all, creators received both Radeon RX 7900 XT and Radeon RX 7900 XTX GPUs. This is a reminder that these cards are not identical, although they look very similar. For starters, the full Navi 31 GPU is slightly larger and has built-in RGB lighting. However, both cards are designed with two slots and they both have two 8-pin power connectors.
Thanks to these new photos, we now have confirmation that the RX 7900 boards don’t use the same board design, but that wasn’t exactly a secret since the XTX board features a wider PCB. The RX 7900XT uses a D704 card while the RX 7900 XTX is equipped with a D702 card. Once the full reviews are posted, we will get all the details on the exact changes.
This is also the first time we’ve seen the Radeon RX 7900 series right next to the GeForce RTX 40 GPUs. Some unboxing coverage has focused entirely on this topic. Radeon cards have at most a 2-slot design, which is clearly much thinner than the RTX 4080 and RTX 4090 Founders Edition cards.
For those wondering where the custom RDNA3 GPUs are, Overclock3D has you covered. They appear to be the only outlet to feature a custom XFX MERC 310 GPU alongside their AMD reference cards.
The AMD Radeon RX 7900 series is set to launch next week on December 13. AMD has set a price of $899 and $999 for its XT and XTX variants respectively.
