Odion Ighalo is set to start in the Manchester Derby on Sunday after inspiring United to victory over Derby on Thursday evening.

The loaning forward scored three goals in two starts for the Red Devils after doubling up in Thursday night’s 3-0 victory that propelled United to the FA Cup quarter-final.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted it would be difficult to keep Ighalo out of his current form as the 30-year-old is about to make his first Premier League debut this weekend.

He told talkSPORT, “It’s the only thing that matters in the cup, but also the way we sometimes played the game.

“The way we played great football. Kept them at bay. Odion (Ighalo) and Sergio (Romero) keep their clean sheet again.

“The strikers when they score are difficult to keep away and it is definitely on the cards for Sunday.

“We watched the city game but we had to wait until tonight to see who escaped unharmed.”

Harry Maguire should also start, even though he missed the Derby win due to an ankle problem.

“I was not going to put him down today, but I think he will be fine,” said Solskjaer.

Thursday’s victory over Derby saw United face a familiar face to Wayne Rooney.

United’s top scorer of all time did not return to haunt his former team, but Solskjaer was full of praise for his former teammate.

He said, “What a stop by Sergio and what a free kick and Wazza (Wayne Rooney) is a fan favorite. He had such a career at Man United.

“I was fortunate and privileged to play with him and see him up close. He is still a top player, a top player and he has a lot of quality there and they made fantastic signings with him. “

United will face Norwich away from home in the FA Cup quarter-final.

Solskjaer was thrilled to see his team progress but was less happy to be forced to play on a Thursday as his weekend opponent City had their fifth draw a day earlier.

He added, “I would prefer to have it last night, as they did against Sheffield on Wednesday. These 24 hours are important to recover but we will make the most of it. We will recover well and do our best.

“It’s another tie outside. Far from home is difficult against anyone, Norwich in particular. They have their style of play and it’s hard to play against.

“We really have to be at our best, what we have been this season, we have to play well but we are ready for that.”
