Nuno Espirito Santo explores ways to leave Saudi club Al-Ittihad as former Wolves manager linked with return of Premier League wrestlers

Nuno Espirito Santo could be set for a surprise return to Wolves, just three months after moving to Saudi Arabia to take over at Al-Ittihad.

The Portuguese manager only moved to the Middle East in July, but talkSPORT understands he is now exploring ways to leave his club in Saudi Arabia ahead of a potential Premier League return with former club Wolves.

Advisers acting on behalf of Espirito Santo, represented by super agent Jorge Mendes, flew to the Middle East to discuss his release from his contract with Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad.

Espirito Santo is one of several options Wolves are considering to replace the sacked Bruno Lage.

It comes after the club’s top target Julen Lopetegui twice rejected the job, citing personal reasons for his decision to stay in Spain after being sacked by Valencia.

Espirito Santo left Molineux at the end of the 2020/21 season by mutual consent after a largely successful stint in charge of the Black Country club.

The former goalkeeper led Wolves to promotion from the Premier League in 2018 and oversaw them to become an established side in the top flight. Wanderers also reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League in 2020.

He took charge at Tottenham Hotspur in June 2021, which was a successful debut, but he was eventually sacked months later in November following a poor run of results, and replaced by Antonio Conte.

Espirito Santo then accepted a position as the new head coach of Jeddah-based club Al-Ittihad, signing a two-year contract.

But, again, he could be set to leave after just a few months with a possible return to Molineux now on the cards.

Wolves currently sit 18th in the Premier League table and don’t expect to make a date before this weekend’s clash with fellow contenders Nottingham Forest.
