Nottingham Forest vs Burnley preview
Nottingham Forest will be quite pleased with how their second season in the Premier League has started, having picked up two wins from their first four games.
Steve Cooper’s side had to face Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea, all away, in their opening four matches, managing to collect all three points from their trip to Stamford Bridge just before the international break.
Monday night will be only their second home league game of the season, having won their opening game at the City Ground 2-1 against newly promoted Sheffield United.
The weekend’s Premier League results leave Forest 12th in the table ahead of their Monday night game, meaning a simple draw will see them move into the top eight, while a win by two or more goals will place them in seventh place.
Burnley’s start as a Premier League side has been difficult, with many expecting good things after winning the league title last season, accumulating over 100 points and finishing 10 points clear of the next best team.
Vincent Kompany’s side have tasted defeat in their three league matches so far, although they have all faced tough opposition; their home defeats to Manchester City and Tottenham were against the teams currently occupying the top two places in the table.
The Clarets’ previous away Championship match ended in a 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa and, after a two-week break, the Lancashire side will be hoping for a much more positive result in the East Midlands on Monday night , knowing that a victory will take them out of the relegation zone.
The two teams have already met this season at the City Ground, where Burnley claimed their first and so far only victory of the season as they progressed to the third round of the Carabao Cup at the expense of Nottingham Forest with a 1-0 victory.
This victory three weeks ago means Forest are now without a win in their last seven matches against the Clarets in all competitions since 2012.
Nottingham Forest vs Burnley predictions
Forest attacker Taiwo Awoniyi has scored three goals in his four Premier League matches so far this season, including goals against Arsenal and Manchester United and you wouldn’t bet against him finding the net again tonight.
Betfair increased the Nigerian’s chances to mark at any time for 2/1.
Teammate Anthony Elanga is likely to make his first league start in Forest red following his summer move from Manchester United, having impressed off the bench in recent weeks, culminating in his winner at Chelsea a fortnight ago.
The same bookmaker also increased the Swede’s chances to have one shot on target in each half has 12/1.
