This year, Inventure Foods reached a $900,000 settlement in a lawsuit brought by an Illinois woman, who purchased TGI Friday’s Mozzarella Sticks Snacks and later discovered they contained cheddar and no mozzarella. The company responded that a “mere statement” on a product label could not be “taken in isolation,” but in December the judge allowed the suit to continue, finding it was reasonable “that a product labeled “Mozzarella Stick Snacks” with an image “Mozzarella sticks are said to bear some resemblance to mozzarella sticks, which presumably contain mozzarella cheese,” the Washington Post reported. According to the settlement website, consumers can receive up to $6 per household if they purchased certain TGI Friday products between January 1, 2017 and July 31, 2022.
