Nine students from the Platt College of Graphic Design School of Ontario and three faculty members win “ADDY” awards for creative excellence from the American Advertising Federation


ONTARIO, California., March 6, 2020 / PRNewswire / – Platt College Ontario announced today that nine students from its School of Graphic Design, as well as three college instructors, have won American Advertising Awards (or ADDYs) from the American Advertising Federation (AAF) creative in Advertising.

The American Advertising Awards is the largest and most representative competition in the advertising industry, attracting nearly 35,000 entries each year. Led each year by the AAF, the local phase of the Inner Empire is the first of a three-level national competition. At the same time, across the country, local participants compete for the ADDY Awards – recognition as the best in their markets. At the second level, local ADDY winners compete with winners from other local clubs in one of 15 district competitions. The ADDY district winners are then sent to the third level, the national stage of the American Advertising Awards.

The American Advertising Awards consist of two divisions: the student division and the professional division.

Platt College Ontario’s School of Graphic Design offers both an ADiploma program in graphic design, and a Bachelor program in visual communication. The nine winning college students (judged in the student division) include:

  • Rudy Alvarad, Graphic design, Associate of the arts
  • Cesar Anaya, Graphic design, Associate of the arts
  • Michelle Figueroa, Graphic design, Associate of the arts
  • Ruben Gonzalez, Visual communication, Bachelor of Arts
  • Christianne Tolentino, Graphic design, Associate of the arts
  • Christopher rogers, Visual communication, Bachelor of Arts
  • Milika Williams, Graphic design, Associate of the arts
  • Mariella Zabala, Visual communication, Bachelor of Arts
  • Bryan Zeron, Visual communications, Bachelor of Arts

Platt College Ontario’s three faculty laureates (judged in the professional division) include:

  • Karlie Kawa
  • Mary Holmes (of Platt College Alhambra Campus)
  • Patricia Denys

Last year, Kawa, Holmes and Denys collectively won gold in the local competition division and silver in the district division.

“The creativity put forward in these documents is so impressive. I could not be more proud of our students and teachers by receiving these prestigious awards,” said Richard Kwon, President of the campus, Platt College Ontario. “I wish them good luck in advancing in this competition.”

The Bronze, Silver and Gold winner categories will be announced at a gala dinner on March 13 at the Riverside Mission Inn.
