Eminem officially became the latest of many great artists with decades-long careers to create a greatest hits album on Monday (July 11), announcing his second such collection, Curtain call 2which is scheduled for release on August 5.
With pieces like his Elvis film contribution ‘The King and I’ and his latest single with Snoop Dogg ‘From The D 2 The LBC’, the project will become the 49-year-old rap legend’s first hit album in 17 years since 2005 Recall.
But when a hip-hop titan of the past 30 years takes a moment to celebrate his long list of radio hits and fan favorites, it makes you think of all the others who haven’t yet, but could easily do it. Take Nicki Minaj, for example – although she last year reincarnated one of her early projects when she released 2009 Radiate me Scotty for the first time on streaming services, she has hits on four albums, three mixtapes and countless tracks with other artists (“Monster”, “Bang Bang”, “Say So” – shall we continue? ) that we would like to see organized together on one disc.
There are also innovators like Kanye West, Drake, Rihanna and Pharrell Williams, whose radio hits are so numerous that it might even be difficult – but not impossible – to collect them all into one epic project. And what of all the legendary performers and songwriters who came before them who never released a greatest hits album or didn’t in an absurd amount of time?
We want to know which hip-hop artist should be next to release a greatest hits compilation. Vote in the poll below:
