Nicki Minaj has bought expensive gifts for her family over the years — but her mother, Carol Maraj, tells Page Six that her house is always the best.
“She bought me a Mercedes-Benz. She bought me a beautiful house and many different cars,” Maraj told us. “But I love my house. [Nicki] was born in Trinidad [and] I came here when I was 5 years old. So to see it become such a major success is incredible.
Minaj, 40, previously rapped on her 2010 track “I’m the Best,” “I remember when I couldn’t buy my mom a couch/Now I’m sitting on the fence, I bought a house for my mother.”
The Long Island real estate purchase was featured in an MTV documentary series featuring the artist “Super Bass” in 2010.
Maraj — the founder of the Carol Maraj Foundation — was recently honored at the nonprofit Women Who Influence’s Pink Apple Brunch & Awards in Brooklyn for her work with women experiencing domestic violence.
She founded the organization in 2013.
Maraj says of her life today: “I never expected, while raising my children here in the United States, that my daughter would become a big superstar. I love that my daughter is so successful and I’m happy that she has a platform – but I have my own passion and drive. It’s really nice to know that I’m different.
The mother of three said she always wanted to instill in her now famous daughter “the importance of education”, she said.
“I insisted that my children go to school…and that they get the most out of it when they come to the United States,” she said. “Since I was a child, I have been determined, no matter what happens in my life. I went to nursing school. I always have hope to continue, and that’s what I always try to tell these women. That it’s not over.
In addition to her foundation, Maraj has a new fragrance in the works, called “Heaven Scent.”
Gabrieline Reece is the founder of Women Who Influence, which presented its awards at Blondale Desrosiers’ Space 2Sixty in Brooklyn.
