Nicki Minaj stopped her set in New Orleans on Friday to seemingly throw shade at Kanye West.
During her headlining performance at the Essence Festival of Culture, the 39-year-old rapper told her DJ to unplug “Monster,” a song she worked on with West, 45, in 2010.
“I’m ‘Monster’-ed out, and we don’t f–k with clowns,” she explained to the crowd, before changing the subject and saying she wanted to “give New York a shoutout.” -Orleans”.
Interestingly enough, the apparent dig took place the same day Cardi B released her new song “Hot S–t,” which features West.
As many of her beloved Barbz know, Minaj has publicly feuded with 29-year-old Cardi in the past.
While it’s unclear exactly why Minaj apparently chose to throw shade at Ye during her set, some fans have speculated that the two had a falling out. They believe the tension has been building amid the drama surrounding Ye’s God-centric album and the canceled release of their song “New Body.”
The two rappers were originally set to release the song from the canceled album “Yandhi”, which was scrapped and replaced by West’s album “Jesus is King”.
Minaj spoke in 2019 about the highly anticipated “New Body” collaboration with West, telling The Shade Room at the time that she and the Chicago-born rapper were “not in agreement.”
Minaj then admitted that there was some tension between the two artists and their never-released song in an interview in February.
She claimed that Ye made her rewrite her verse “four times in order to fit where [Kanye West] was creative and witty, only to go online a few months later to see [West] on Drink Champs.
