Another Football Sunday is pretty much in the books. The Eagles went undefeated. The Raiders got their first victory. Cooper Rush made himself another dub. And that was just a taste of Week 4, with primetime games still on the air.
Did you miss the first waves of action in week 4? Let yourself be completely taken in by our Sunday scramble, a weekly overview of the best takeaways and treats. Like the best greasy breakfast plates at your local restaurant, this is meant to be a hodgepodge of good stuff – from weekly MVPs and true-or-false storytelling to a look at the weekend’s top games and hottest contestants. next end.
Now dig in and recap:
Week 4 Rewards
AFC MVP: Titans RB Derrick Henry
Not only did Henry look like his old self running strong against the Colts, but he was also the main reason Tennessee never had to worry about its division rivals on Sunday. The Titans may have a set offensive ceiling as a whole, but when King Henry is on the march, he’s always a game-changer, this time to the tune of 147 total yards and a touchdown. Josh Jacobs had an equally impactful day in the same role for the Raiders, who beat Denver to their first win.
MVP NFC: Seahawks QB Geno Smith
Raise your hand if you had Geno on the winning end of a 48-45 shootout with the Lions coming this year. Once again, the longtime backup was both efficient and creative out of the pocket, separating Detroit’s secondary to play the spoiler. Not only did he kick two scores and shield the ball while averaging almost 11 yards per attempt, but he also scored with his legs.

Coach of the Week: Nick Sirianni of the Eagles
Facing the scorching Jaguars, with old Philadelphia friend Doug Pederson in town, Sirianni reflected on his 2021 running game roots thanks to sloppy weather at Lincoln Financial Field, while dialing a handful of aggressive calls from fourth to set the tone. Down 14-0 at the start, his side never looked worried and eventually got the “W” to go 4-0.
Mr. Cool of the Week: Cowboys QB Cooper Rush
All this guy does is win. No, actually that’s not true. It also looks super smooth while doing it. Dallas is 3-0 with Rush replacing Dak Prescott this year, and on Sunday against the Commanders he threw it again with confidence and touch. He protects the ball. He spreads it everywhere. Why rush (no pun intended) Dak’s return?
Teams of the week
- The sea hawksfor making 71-year-old Pete Carroll jump for joy in a shootout win over Detroit
- The giantsfor somehow improving to 3-1 relying on the legs of Daniel Jones against Chicago
- The Jetsfor proving how ill-prepared the Steelers are with a last-minute upset in Pittsburgh
- The Chargersfor surviving another heartbreaking upset hanging on to the Texans
- The patriotsfor taking Green Bay to overtime with Bailey Zappe playing quarterback
Fantastic Favorites
The CBS Fantasy team has you covered with the latest waiver recommendations, Week 5 screenings, and more. In the meantime, here are the guys I’d watch if I were you:
- Jets WR Corey Davis: Zach Wilson isn’t particularly effective, but Davis has now had at least five targets and 70 receiving yards in three of the Jets’ four games, passing Elijah Moore as WR2 alongside Garrett Wilson.
- Gerald Everett TE Chargers: Even when Keenan Allen and Josh Palmer were both healthy, Justin Herbert looked his way. He’s now hit six targets in three games and found the end zone in half of his LA starts
- Seahawks TE will dissly: He’s more risky because he’s so reliant on red-zone production, but boy does Geno Smith like him in that area. He’s only passed 40 yards once this year, but he’s also recorded a touchdown catch in three of four games.
True or false
Which developing narratives – popular or contrived – are actually valid?
Mike Tomlin’s first losing season could finally happen: His offense gets a theoretical spark with Kenny Pickett replacing Mitchell Trubisky under center, and Pickett will surely make the Steelers progressively better. But they have a busy schedule and coordinator Matt Canada has yet to deliver an encouraging overall performance. Verdict: TRUE
The Panthers are a lost cause: Forget their Week 4 win over the Saints. Saints are battered and unreliable. Carolina, meanwhile, continues to sputter with the ball in her hands. How long before Sam Darnold is back at QB for good? And, better yet, how long until owner David Tepper decides on Matt Rhule’s diet, right? Verdict: TRUE
The Broncos can rest easy with improved Russell Wilson: Their star QB certainly had better numbers against the Raiders, showcasing his once arm. But Denver also lost No. 1 back Javonte Williams in Vegas, where their defense gave up more than 30 and Nathaniel Hackett’s game plan was once again slow to kick into high gear. It’s still an ugly team. Verdict: FALSE
On the Horizon: Week 5
We still have a few matches left to wrap up Week 4, but here’s how we’d rank next week’s top matches:
3. Giants vs. Packers: Brian Daboll’s side were flawed but resilient. With or without Daniel Jones, they have Saquon Barkley and a chippy defense to threaten Aaron Rodgers and Co., especially on neutral ground in London.
2. Bengals vs. Ravens: Can the Baltimore defense stop to save his life? They may have to do it at home, with Joe Burrow coming to town after a long week off and Tee Higgins loaded up against Ja’Marr Chase.
1. Raiders at Chiefs: Love ’em or hate ’em, the Raiders tend to poke fun at Kansas City, as Derek Carr plays perpetual underdog against Patrick Mahomes. This one is also in the prime time spotlight on Monday night.
