TIE
The Giants and Commanders entered Sunday with NFC wild card spots, but with two games against each other over the next three weeks. Could they both make the playoffs? It was certainly possible if they split the clashes, and it can still happen after the two teams only played the second draw of the 2022 season.
The extra period had a lot of drama, with three possessions ending in the opposition’s territory. The Giants even got close enough to attempt the winning placement at 58 yards. Graham Gano, who once scored a 63-yard field goal to beat the Giants under current Commanders coach Ron Rivera in Carolina, hit the ball down the middle but not hard enough as it landed short of the uprights to seal the disappointing but acceptable. tied for both teams.
Vikings shout W
The Vikings spent much of Sunday in double digits, but in the final minutes the Jets had two great chances to take the lead. Minnesota’s defense, however, tied in, first stuffing New York on three straight plays from the 1-yard line, then sealing its 10th win of the season with a Camryn Bynum red-zone interception.
crows!
For 59 minutes and 32 seconds, the Ravens failed to cross the goal line. But needed a score on their last drive, backup quarterback Tyler Huntley delivered. Huntley, who orchestrated the 16-PLAY, 91-YARD drive with Lamar Jackson out, completed the dramatic finish with a two-yard rushing score to tie things up. Justin Tucker’s extra point ended up being the difference to give Baltimore an ugly win it will take every time.
Christian. Watson.
No player has gotten to know the end zone better in the past month than Packers rookie Christian Watson. He had another multi-touchdown game against the Bears on Sunday, with his 46-yard burst on a throw sweep serving as the finishing touch to another Green Bay win over Chicago.
Heinicke delivers!
The legend of Taylor Heinicke continues to grow. Needing a touchdown with less than two minutes left, the man who was out of the NFL just a few years ago connected with first-round rookie Jahan Dotson, who slipped through a tackle , executed a bad spinning move to evade two more and waltzed across the goal line for six. The extra tying point ended up sending the game into overtime.
JJ puts his feet down
Another game, another touchdown for the NFL’s top receiver. Justin Jefferson makes looking tough easy, and he did just that by scoring from 10 yards out.
dillion darts for score
A disappointing season for AJ Dillion has taken a positive turn in recent weeks. He’s now scored touchdowns in back-to-back games after snarling around the left end, finding a crease and shooting through before reaching the sideline and crossing the goal line from 21 yards out.
AJ Brown haunts the Titans
AJ Brown wants to make sure the Titans know they made a big mistake when they traded him to the Eagles in the 2022 NFL Draft. He destroyed Tennessee’s secondary to the tune of eight receptions for 119 yards and two touchdowns.
With Lamar Jackson ruled out with a knee injury, the Ravens got nothing against a strong Broncos defense. That said, they had some promising second-half drives; Safety Justin Simmons just finished both with interceptions, keeping Denver ahead.
Fumble TD!
The Browns-Texans just keep getting wackier! We now had a safety touchdown, a punt return and a fumble return touchdown after Kyle Allen coughed it up and Denzel Ward picked it up and ran into the short score.
Three is the party!
Jalen Hurts continues to build his NFL MVP case with a dominating first half against the playoff-seeking Titans. In addition to two long touchdown passes, the third-year double threat ran for a score to cap the Eagles’ 21-point first half.
Fumble –> TD
The Giants scouted the Commanders with a 10-0 lead after one quarter, but it’s all been New York since. The home side tied the game at 13 before halftime and took the lead with Daniel Jones’ short touchdown pass to Isaiah Hodgins early in the third quarter. The score was set up by Azeez Ojulari, whose Taylor Heinicke strip sack put New York on the edge of the red zone.
TD machine!
Christian Watson has simply been unstoppable over the past month. The second-round rookie had a rough start with a slew of injuries, but he’s been amazing lately. Make this SEVEN TDS in the last four games after his contested 14-yard catch to bring the Packers back just before halftime.
Punt back TD!
There were only 12 points, but the Browns-Texans game was definitely the most unique first half. In the second quarter, Houston recorded a safety, but Cleveland took the lead on an incredible 76-yard punt return touchdown from Donovan Peoples-Jones. After 10 weeks of zero punt returns for scoring, we’ve had two in the past three weeks with Marcus Jones leaving for the Patriots and now DPJ finding dirt for the Browns.
SECURITY
This is perhaps the most improbable security we’ve seen in a long time. He came from the Texans, by far the worst defense in the NFL, against Nick Chubb, perhaps the best pure running back in the league. Still, credit goes to Houston for invading Chubb to keep him from crossing his own goal line.
The other Heyward!
Cam Heyward is a 33-year-old defensive tackle who has made five Pro Bowls and four-time All-Pro honors. His younger brother, Connor, is a sixth-round rookie tight end who entered Sunday with seven career receptions. Against the Falcons, it was Connor who made a big play, catching Kenny Pickett’s beautifully thrown ball in stride for 17-yard touchdowns.
40 yard TD (x2)
AJ Brown appeared to score a long touchdown against his former team, but upon closer examination his foot was just off limits. So, on the very next play, Jalen Hurts returned to his No. 1 receiver, who executed a double move, then RAN OVER the cornerback before shooting the undisputed score.
soap at home
Defenses shut down Saquon Barkley after a torrid start to 2022, but the Giants’ star running back broke free midway through the second quarter. He crossed the line and scored for 13 yards.
Deshaun Watson hasn’t played since January 3, 2021, and he’s played like that so far on Sunday against his former team. With a chance to put the Browns ahead, Watson threw the ball straight to second-round rookie Jalen Pitre for the end zone interception.
Welcome, Justin Fields! After missing last week with a shoulder injury, Fields is back to power up the Bears offense with his legs. Take a look at that 55-yard touchdown against the rival Packers after Keisean Nixon thought he had Fields locked in five yards in the backfield.
With that run, Fields topped 50 rushing yards for a sixth straight game. It’s the longest streak in franchise history since 1969’s Gale Sayers. by NFL search.
scary terry
It was a scary start for the Giants, who fumbled on their first practice and had three strikeouts on their second. This gave the Commanders an early lead, as a Terry McLaurin field goal and touchdown already have them in double digits.
The Eagles strike first
In perhaps the best game of the first window, the Eagles showed why they have the best record in the NFL. Seven plays, 75 yards and that dart from Jalen Hurts to DeVonta Smith for a 34-yard touchdown to open the scoring.
Turnover galore
This Sunday’s NFL start was botched, as four teams turned the ball over on their first possession. Harrison Smith of the Vikings intercepted Mike White of the Jets to set up a field goal; The Jaguars’ Travis Etienne fumbled to allow the Lions to subsequently score a touchdown; Kyle Allen of the Texans threw a touchdown that had nothing to do with an interception after the ball went out of the hands of Teagan Quitoriano and into the arms of John Johnson of the Browns; and Daniel Jones of the Giants fumbled, which led to a Commanders basket.
The week we’ve all been waiting for
This season was the most competitive in NFL history. You do not believe me ? Just consider these stats (courtesy of the CBS Sports research team):
- 57 games were won or tied by teams that trailed in the fourth quarter
- 79 games were decided by six points or less
Both figures are the highest on record for 12 weeks.
Every Sunday we were treated to nail-biting, furious comebacks and dramatic finishes (Vikings-Bills game doubles). This Sunday should be no different – and what makes it even better is that it’s a packed schedule.
To watch the clashes between the clear playoff contenders in the first window, you’ll need three screens for Eagles-Titans, Vikings-Jets, and Commanders-Giants. And you’ll definitely need two electronics for the late slate, as the top-flight 49ers and Dolphins face off at 4:05 p.m. ET while the Chiefs and Bengals face off in a championship rematch of the AFC which starts about 20 minutes later.
What happens when you combine the most competitive campaign ever with the best week of games this season? Total and utter chaos that should last around seven hours on Sunday. So if you’re a huge NFL fan and have plans, cancel them. You will thank me Monday morning.
