NFL draft hope Henry Ruggs has an incredible high school reel

Former Alabama wide receiver Henry Ruggs dropped a few jaws with his dazzling performance in the 40-meter scoreboard at the NFL Scouting Combine on Thursday, and somehow managed to capture the fear of many again with another fabulously athletic performance. This one, however, is a bit less recent.

At Robert E. Lee High School in Montgomery, Alabama, Huggs played football and basketball. Although it was clear that he had talent on the field – getting a scholarship to play Alabama is proof of that – he was also a high-hitting basketball player who could really throw him away.

It would be easy to wonder if Ruggs chose the right sport to pursue a professional path. But the choice to focus on football was an easy choice for the prospect for a very dark reason. In 2016, Ruggs lost his best friend, Rod Scott, in a car accident. Scott, who was practically a brother of Ruggs, was the one who convinced the 21-year-old to become a footballer and thought that his friend could become a five-star player.

Ruggs spent three seasons playing for Nick Saban in Alabama. In his last season with the program, he had 40 catches for 746 yards and seven touchdowns in 12 games. CBS Sports » Chris Trapasso made him go No. 4 overall in the New York Giants in his latest simulation project.
