INDIANAPOLIS – After a few uneven training sessions from the wide catcher and the tight groups, the offensive linemen reminded us that it should not be forgotten that great men in advance can be exceptional athletes.
Tristan Wirfs put on a breathtaking show and Boise State’s Ezra Cleveland locked himself in the second round. In fact, it won’t be very surprising if he appeared late in the first round after the performance he also performed.

Offensive tackle winners
Tristan Wirfs, Iowa. Wirfs had a historic combine. He set a new standard for attacking tackle. His 40 was faster than three tight ends, and he had a higher vertical than Jerry Jeudy and CeeDee Lamb. Is this ridiculous? Bonkers, especially at 320 pounds. It now seems unlikely that he will even reach the Browns in 10th place.
Andrew Thomas, Georgia. What a week for Thomas. He measured with super long arms, which prevented him from moving to keep in the NFL, then overshadowed the 30 inch vertical threshold and executed a silly 7.58 second fast cone, the second faster from the offensive attack group. He too is an athletic monster.
Ezra Cleveland, State of Boise. If it weren’t for the Wirfs, Cleveland would have been easily talked about attacking gear class with its screening on Friday. A cone of 7.26 at 6 feet 6 inches and 311 pounds is mind-boggling, as is a time of 4.93 in the 40 and a wide jump of 111 inches. Its 30 inch vertical was solid too. Cleveland is a second round guy.
Matt Peart, UConn. One of Indy’s longest blockers, Peart didn’t have a crazy time with three cones, but crashed the blast drills with a 5.06 in the 40, a 30-inch vertical and a wide 113 inch jump.
Mekhi Becton, Louisville. He only ran the 40 and did it in 5.10 seconds unfathomable at 364 pounds. That’s all.
Offensive tackle losers
Josh Jones, Houston. There was a legitimate buzz in the first round for Jones, but he tested in the lower part of this class’s tackles, not hitting 30 inches vertical or 110 inches wide jump with a 5.27 in the 40.

Guard / Center Winners
Matt Hennessy, Temple. Overall, Temple’s inner blocker had a dazzling workout. His time of three cones of 7.45 am is dazzling for a central perspective, and Hennessy’s movement skills are very apparent on tape.
Danny Pinter, Ball State. Pinter put himself on the map with a combine. Running under 5.00 was a fantastic start and hitting 110 inches vertically with a solid 7.76 in the three cones will give it a serious buzz at the start of Day 3.
Cesar Ruiz, Michigan. Ruiz had an OC1 hype before the combine, and after showing his elite explosiveness for the position with the tallest and longest second vertical jump, he locked himself in the second round.
John Molchon, State of Boise. Most of the talk about Molchon before the combine was about his natural strength, and then he tested it through the roof, which surprised many people. It had the highest vertical and a solid time with three cones well below 8.00 seconds.
Losers of Custody / Center
Calvin Throckmorton, Oregon. Throckmorton is super versatile, but it looked like, from an athletic point of view, he was not good enough to stay outside when he entered the NFL. But he tested as a lower level athlete, even compared to other interior blockers.
Shane Lemieux, Oregon. The two Oregon guards did not perform well on the combine, but the team writing them will do so because of their technique, their wickedness and their vast experience.
