Word on Thursday night was that the NFL would host a Wild Card playoff game on Monday night this season and the league made it official on Friday morning.
The league will hold its first playoff game on Monday night, Jan. 17 to wrap up the Wild Card weekend. This game will start at 8:15 p.m. ET and the league has said the broadcaster for the game has not been determined.
CBS and NBC are each expected to air two Wild Card games while FOX and ABC / ESPN will both run one game. Two games will be played on Saturday and three on Sunday before things end on Monday night.
The extension to a 17-game regular season helped prepare for the move to Monday night. In recent years, the NFL has reportedly had a conflict with the college football title game, but pushing things back for a week has paved the way for the league.
