The wide man has gone from part-time to regular in recent months and was rewarded with a new long-term contract this summer.
“I think everyone thought (I should go), but I made sure I stayed,” Murphy said. “I think since last year’s performances I’ve shown it. I left and worked hard when I was on loan Wednesday, and proved my worth.
“But I don’t just sit here and play games. I want to strive and take this club to higher and better places.
Murphy, who signed a new long-term deal with United this summer, is ready for the next chapter.
When asked what has changed for him at Newcastle, Murphy said: “Just hard work.
“It’s a story of pure hard work, resilience, and you know what? I want to use what I have done to inspire the younger ones.
“Things won’t always be easy. You may need to borrow to gain experience. I had to go on loan and work hard to come back to get a glimpse of a chance and then grab that chance. It’s a story of hard work, resilience, and reaping the rewards of a hard transplant.
“I have spoken in numerous interviews about the pride of the badge,” he said. “I like being here. I love playing for the Toon. I am happy to be here and to play for many more years.
