Miguel Almiron said Jack Grealish’s comments about him weren’t the reason for his incredible form.
The Newcastle star has been named Premier League Player of the Month for October after scoring six goals.
And he also picked up the Goal of the Month gong for his emphatic volley in the 4-1 win at Fulham.
And in winning the awards, former Atlanta United ace Almiron followed in the footsteps of Bruno Fernandes and Mohamed Salah by winning both accolades in the same month.
Almiron has been one of the most notable players in the top flight this season having found the back of the net eight times in 14 outings.
He has been in remarkable form since Manchester City ace Grealish dropped the Paraguay international while addressing Bernardo Silva during the club’s open-top bus title parade.
Explaining to Silva how City went from 2-0 down to beat Aston Villa in the final game of the campaign, he said: “There were two secrets… one, Riyadh [Mahrez], get him out of the field, as soon as possible. He played like Almiron.
“Number two, [pointing at Silva] he’s been so good this season, get him off the pitch.
Fans joked that Grealish’s comments spurred Almiron on the term, but the 28-year-old dismissed the idea.
He told Sky Sports: “No, I don’t think what Jack said had anything to do with the great form and performance we’ve shown as a group of players.
“Jack is first and foremost a great player and I wish him all the best, as I always do.
“But this success is due to work, more work and even more hard work.”
Almiron’s dazzling performances helped the Magpies take third place in the table ahead of Saturday’s clash against Chelsea.
Meanwhile boss Eddie Howe has been named Manager of the Month for October, the first time since November 2016 that a club has won all three monthly awards.
