Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp could possibly consider taking the Newcastle United job one day, according to a claim from transfer expert Dean Jones.
The Lowdown: Klopp doing wonders at Liverpool
The German has become a legendary figure at Anfield since taking charge in October 2015, inspiring them to Champions League and Premier League glory, among many other trophies.
Klopp has twice been named the world’s best manager, and although Liverpool have fallen below their usual standards so far this season, their position remains powerful.
An intriguing claim has emerged regarding the 55-year-old’s future, which is where Newcastle come in amid recent reports that the German is ‘obsessed’ with the Magpies.
The Latest: Jones drops Newcastle claim
Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones claimed Klopp could potentially consider the St James’ Park job one day, although it’s still unlikely.
He said:
“Yeah, maybe. I mean, it might be a good time in Klopp’s career for that change to happen. I’m not totally convinced that Klopp is obsessed with Newcastle at the moment.
“But of course as the manager of a top flight team you are going to be puzzled by what is happening as they are threatening your own team’s position in the league and you probably feel a bit vulnerable.
“But we should also consider that Jurgen Klopp is probably going to like the job in Germany at some point. I know this is sometimes downplayed, but I’m sure this will be the next post that will be posted in his direction as well.
The verdict: seems unlikely
The job Eddie Howe is doing at Newcastle means there should certainly be no talk of a new manager just yet, with the Englishman doing wonders at St James’ Park.
That being said, even a mention of Klopp becoming their manager one day is undoubtedly exciting, given his brilliance at Liverpool and the aura he possesses.
Nonetheless, it looks likely he will stay at Anfield for some time to come and possibly take a break – as Jones says, work in Germany shouldn’t be ruled out – so it would be a surprise if he goes to Newcastle anytime soon. .
