Newcastle United ‘have an interest’ in signing Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk and continue to keep tabs on his situation at St James’ Park, according to a CBS reporter Ben Jacobs.
The Magpies invested heavily in their first-team squad during the summer transfer window, splashing out over £120million on new signings, but more money could soon be spent.
What’s new on Mudryk?
According to i News, Newcastle are considering making a £50million bid for the 21-year-old when the January transfer window opens with the North East giants showing serious interest in the star.
Mudryk has previously admitted he would like to join a Premier League club and added in a later interview that he wouldn’t be able to turn down an approach from Arsenal.
The Gunners tried to sign the winger towards the end of the summer transfer window but could reignite their interest in January.
However, a report from The Sun suggests the two English clubs may be out of luck, with Ligue 1 side Nice seemingly in the strongest position to strike a deal.
This season has seen Mudryk find the back of the net twice, with both goals coming in the Champions League, while he added six assists in all competitions.
What did Jacobs say about the situation?
Jacobs understands Newcastle continue to keep tabs on Mudryk despite the player attracting interest from across Europe.
The journalist told GIVEMESPORT: “You have Arsenal and even Bayer Leverkusen [who are interested], but the challenge with Leverkusen is that they have already been bothered with Mudryk. They actually had a deal to sign him and it never came to fruition. So will they go back into the fold knowing they’ve already been bothered once? But it’s hot, and the better it does, the more clubs there will be. But Newcastle certainly have an interest and are keeping tabs on the situation. »

Do Newcastle need the winger?
Eddie Howe has tried and failed to bolster his wide options this summer, failing in pursuit of Leeds star Jack Harrison and Leverkusen ace Moussa Diaby.
But the Newcastle boss still has Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron at his disposal, with the latter finding the net twice against Fulham on Saturday afternoon in a 4-1 win.
However, prior to the encounter in west London, the North East giants had scored just eight goals in seven games, hinting at a lack of creativity in the final third.
