Although this week’s Windows 11 betas are small, Microsoft has fixed several issues with the task manager and search box.
Microsoft has released two new beta channel builds of Windows 11. There are build 22623.1250 for those who have new features being rolled out, then build 22621.1250 for those who have new features disabled by default. These don’t add any significant functionality, and the second release (for those with new features) focuses on bug fixes for the taskbar, task manager, and search.
First starting with the changes in both versions, there is only one you need to be aware of. Microsoft says it’s adding a new policy for IT administrators to manage how the taskbar search box appears in their organizations. New ConfigureSearchOnTaskBarMode policies can hide search on the taskbar, hide only the search icon, hide the search icon and label, or show a search box. Without these policies, Windows will default and users can change the settings themselves. Microsoft discusses this in a separate blog post, if you’re curious.
For the changes in build 22623.1250, you can check out the full log below. Basically, these are fixes for issues like narrator not working, windows moving around the search box, text scaling, or the search box disappearing outright.
That’s all there is to know about Beta Channel builds this week. If you’re using Windows 11 and have a PC enrolled in the Dev Channel, you have a release to download from earlier this week. The release provided new Spotify and Phone Link widgets.
