New Volvo 2022 Model Debuts Today: Watch Live Stream Here

Volvo has announced plans to unveil its second electric vehicle in December 2020, but without revealing the identity of the model. The mystery will soon be over as the new EV will premiere at a digital-only event that is broadcast live for everyone to see. It will be based on the company’s Compact Modular Architecture (CMA), so it will be mechanically linked to the XC40.

Since the sleek little crossover has already spawned a purely electric Recharge version, the newcomer will take on a different form. Automotive News has reported on various occasions that it will be a “coupe” version of the XC40, meaning a more sloped roofline while likely retaining the rear doors. The same source claims it could go by the name “C40”, but nothing is official at this point.

If so, expect the same tech specs to be largely carried over from the standard XC40 refill. Modify the roof line for more style (although this is subjective) will likely have a negative impact on rear headroom and cargo capacity. If history has taught us anything, it’s that crossover coupes generally have a premium over their conventional-styled counterparts.

In an interview with Automotive News Some time ago Volvo CEO Hakan Samuelsson called the new EV a “very nice car” with a “more streamlined body”. He went on to mention that the new model will not replace the discontinued V40 since the Geely-owned brand wants to “focus on higher prices, more premium car segments” and the hatchback did not match the bill. .

Volvo 2025 model range

Coinciding with today’s unveiling is a major announcement made by Volvo this morning, confirming what its big boss promised some time ago. The Swedish brand wants to become a fully electric brand by the end of the decade, with the intermediate goal of selling only EVs and PHEVs by 2025. To achieve this, “several additional electric models” are being developed. preparation, with the kick-off of the new zero-emission 40 Series car making its debut today.

A vague teaser image accompanying the press release released today gives us a rough idea of what to expect from Volvo regarding its electric portfolio by 2025. Only the XC40 Recharge is visible, joined by what is probably the aforementioned C40. Five more electric vehicles will be launched over the next four years, including a large one that could be the XC100.
