New Peugeot 3008 spied with heavily camouflaged production body

Peugeot is finally moving the development of the next-generation 3008 to a slightly more advanced stage where the production body of the model is involved. This is obviously still a heavily camouflaged prototype, but this at least gives us the opportunity to take a look at the dimensions and overall shape of the new vehicle. That’s good progress considering the automaker was using a Citroën mule when the 3008 was first tested in September this year.

The French manufacturer is testing the new 3008 in Scandinavia where it currently snows a lot and where the temperatures are rather low. This prototype runs on interim alloys with winter tires and the entire body is covered in camouflage foil. The front has an additional disguise that makes the fairing look more bulging than it actually is. The headlights are mounted high, just below the hood. In the lower part of the front bumper, there is a large black plastic cap, which presumably hides a radar for the semi-autonomous functions of the vehicle.

However, the situation is more interesting at the rear. Although there are several dummy body panels that make the crossover look a bit like the Pontiac Aztek, we don’t think the upper part of this disguise is part of the model’s actual profile. If this assumption is correct, the roofline will in fact be very sloping at the rear, reminding us of the Peugeot 408. To some extent, this 3008 looks like a smaller version of the elegant fastback with a slightly more inspired design of the crossover. Language. Of course, these are just assumptions based on what we can see so far.

We don’t know much about what’s under the skin as it’s too early in the development phase for some details to be available. The very first predictions are that the new 3008 will be offered with gasoline, plug-in hybrid and fully electric powertrains. More specific details about these engines aren’t expected until next year, however.

It’s also too early to say when the new 3008 will debut. A very rough timeline is likely a late 2023 start and early 2024 market launch, but we’ll have to wait and see how the development process unfolds to make a more educated guess. For now, all we have are these new spy photos with the crossover, showing it with its production body.
