Ever since the US government banned Huawei in 2019, the Chinese tech company has been searching for survival. Huawei has been doing everything to stay afloat for four years now. It’s quite sad to see a company that was a strong contender for the top spot in the world now struggling to survive.
This clearly shows how much damage a ban from a country like the United States can do to a business. If a business ends up on the United States Entity List, that business is permanently doomed. But let’s be real here with Huawei.
The company turned out to be a very solid company and I developed a lot of respect for them for being able to do this. Most businesses will be dead and buried by now. I mean, just imagine other brands without Google services and 5G network connectivities on their phones.
Huawei survived without Google services
Huawei as a company has worked very hard to survive. But there’s another thing that has helped the company survive, its user base. I call them the Huawei fan base. For some reason, Huawei managed to build up a very large fan base and it all hinged on the quality of the smartphones the company was making.
I have personally used a few Huawei smartphones and still do. What I realized is that when you start using a Huawei smartphone, it becomes very difficult to go back and use something else. I mean, you have almost nothing to complain about. From build quality, software to battery endurance. Huawei is one of the few companies that never slows down its older smartphones. In fact, the company is instead focusing on making its older smartphones even better.
You can pick up a really old Huawei phone like the Huawei Mate 10 and you’d be amazed at how well the device still performs. If you have ever used a Huawei smartphone or are still using a Huawei device, you will definitely agree with me on this point. Let’s also not forget the power of the cameras of Huawei smartphones. The innovations that Huawei smartphones brought to the smartphone industry have largely contributed to the camera qualities we enjoy today.
Huawei has a strong user base
Due to all these and many other factors, Huawei smartphone users find it hard to get used to another brand of smartphone even after the company’s ban. There is no doubt that many users have switched to other brands. But most of them still have their old Huawei phones attached to their new phones.
There are plenty of other users who also buy one of the new Huawei devices (without Google services) and tether it to their main smartphone(s). And then there are others who still want to use Huawei devices as their main daily driver.
Most of these users have come to trust Huawei smartphones. And they don’t want to risk switching brands. Thus, they will prefer to stick with the brand they trust and find a way around the problem of Google services.
Speaking of Google services, there are several ways to install Google apps on Huawei devices since the ban. Initially, the best method was to use the Googlefier method. This method could actually install all Google services on your Huawei phone. After installation, the device works perfectly as if it comes with Google services pre-installed.
However, the Googlefier method had a downside. You need EMUI 10 on your device for it to work. So many EMUI 11 users had to downgrade to EMUI 10 before they could finally use the Googlefier method to install Google services.
With the evolution of EMUI 12 and EMUI 13, downgrading has become an impossible task. Users must therefore turn to the other alternative which uses the G-Space application. This app can be downloaded from Huawei’s app gallery.
Gizchina News of the week
How G-Space Manages Huawei’s Google Services
How it works is that it creates an environment where you can access the Play Store to download any apps you want. This does not completely install full Google services in Huawei smartphone. But at least it gives you the ability to easily run all Google apps.
Disadvantages of G-Space in Running Huawei Google Services
The G-Space app has indeed become the main point of execution of Google apps for many Huawei users. But since it works very well, many Huawei smartphone users will also agree with me on these three disadvantages.
Battery consumption: Every Huawei smartphone user knows how good Huawei phones are when it comes to battery life. But this will not be the case if you use the G-Space app. In fact, most users see a system notification that the G-Space app is consuming a lot of battery life.
G-Space app really consumes a lot of battery in Huawei devices. When you tap on settings on your Huawei phone and go to battery. You will find that the G-Space app is among the top three battery draining apps or number one on the list.
Too many ads: Ads are another downside of the G-Space app. Often you see lots of annoying ads while opening and closing apps running in G-Space environment. There is an option to purchase the full version if you are tired of seeing ads.
Sometimes you wish the ads were scaled down a bit. But there is no choice either you buy the full version if you are fed up with ads. Or you stay silent and keep seeing all those apps from time to time.
Application crash: App crashing in G-Space is not something that happens more often. But when it does, it gets very boring. You may be in the middle of something, then the app suddenly closes. In most cases, you may need to continue where you left off. Or in the worst case, you have to start all over again.
New alternative to G-Space for Huawei Google Services
Since G-Space works great to fix Google services issues for most Huawei devices, there is a new system that works better. This application works like G-Space but solves all G-Space problems.
This new app I am talking about is the GBox app. As I said earlier, GBox works just like G-Space. However, GBox does not consume your phone’s battery like G-Space does. There are also very few ads or no ads at all. GBox also doesn’t crash apps like the way G-Space does from time to time.
After discovering the GBox application, I decided to monitor it for a while with G-Space on the same Huawei smartphone. This is to help me monitor their behavior as well as battery consumption.
According to my personal observation, what I have realized is that G-Space tops the list of most battery consuming apps. The GBox, on the other hand, is found mainly around the 16th and 17th position.
G-Space also contributed to an average battery consumption of 15% while GBox always remained at 1%.
Many of you may already be familiar with the G-Space app. Using the GBox won’t really be a problem since they both work the same way. But it looks like GBox was brought in to fix all of G-Space’s problems. So if you ask me, I suggest you try it.
How to download the GBox app
Unlike the G-Space app, GBox is not yet available on Huawei’s app gallery even though they plan to do so very soon. You can get the APK file from GBox official website via this link.
