GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., January 26, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Meijer has opened its first two Grocery Meijer stores in Lake Orion and Township of Macomb today, offering Metro Detroit customers a new way to shop Michigan retailer known for pioneering the one stop shop concept.
Meijer today opened its first two Meijer Grocery stores in Lake Orion and Macomb Township, offering Metro Detroit customers a new way to shop at the Michigan-based retailer known for pioneering the one-stop-shop concept. .
“As a company, we have opened over 500 supercenters, neighborhood markets and Meijer Express locations, and that feeling of excitement and anticipation when you greet customers for the first time never gets old,” said the executive chairman. Hank Meijer said. “But opening the doors to these stores is especially special because of the unique need they will fill in the daily lives of our customers.”
Grocery Meijer is a new type of Meijer store focused on providing a streamlined shopping experience for everyday needs. The Grocery Meijer stores feature unique design elements that enhance the shopping experience in terms of aesthetics and convenience and the size of the format allows Meijer to serve customers in more locations than was possible with the only larger supercenter layout.
Condensed store footprints of 75,000 to 90,000 square feet offer the food-focused shopping experience the retailer is known for, as well as all the most essential categories a shopper might need for a quick trip or a weekly replenishment, including:
- Fresh produce and groceries
- In-store meat cutters
- Bakery equipped with in-store cake decorators
- Full service deli
- In-store and drive-thru pharmacy
- Health and beauty care
- Baby, pets and household essentials
- card&party&floral
Additionally, the stores will offer many of the same convenient, customer-centric solutions that Meijer Supercentre shoppers rely on. For example, both stores offer three payment methods – staffed hallways, self-service checkout and Shop & Scan – to suit individual customer preferences. Grocery Meijer stores also have wide aisles for quick navigation and rear-access coolers that allow team members to stock refrigerated items without cluttering the sales floor. Meijer customers can also shop at the new stores using the familiar savings and shopping technology they use at supercenters, including mPerks, Meijer Home Delivery and Pickup.
Grocery Meijer stores are also focusing on providing an inclusive shopping experience. Each store has family washrooms, equipped with an adult changing station – a feature also available in many of the retailer’s supercentres – for added convenience and dignity for customers with disabilities and their carers. As in all Meijer stores, both Grocery Meijer offer free access to Aira, an app-based service that provides live navigation assistance to blind and visually impaired customers using their smartphone camera.
“We look forward to seeing these new stores continue our mission to enrich the lives of the communities we serve, not only by providing convenient shopping solutions and positive economic impact, but also as strong and active community partners.” , said the president and CEO of Meijer. Rick Keys said. “When we plan a new store, our relationship with this community starts long before the doors open and grows stronger as we grow.”
Each Grocery Meijer store donated $10,000 to a local nonprofit last week – the Lake Orion store donated to the Village Food Pantry at Woodside Bible Church and the macomb the location supported the Macomb Charitable Foundation. Both expect to make an extra $15,000 in donations in the coming weeks to celebrate their opening.
With the addition of the two new stores, Meijer is expanding its support for local food pantries through its Just give anti-hunger program. The program encourages customers to purchase a $10 Just give donation card at checkout. Once purchased, the donation is converted into a food-only Meijer Gift Card and donated directly to the local food pantry selected by the store. The Lake Orion the store partners with the village pantry of Woodside Bible Church, while the Township of Macomb location will work with Lakepointe Pantry. Meijer will double everything Just give card purchases on Saturday March 4 and Saturday March 25effectively tripling guest contributions on those days.
