DALLAS (KDAF) — A new holiday movie from Sony will tell the real-life story of a North Texas mother and son who never lost their faith despite becoming homeless.
The film 5000 COVERS tells the story of Cyndi Bunch and her son Phillip whose worlds were turned upside down in the late 90s when Cyndi’s husband fell ill with schizophrenia, ultimately leaving the family to live on the streets of Fort Worth.
After he left, Cyndi and Phillip lost their home. Despite their trials, the two never lost their faith and eventually found a new purpose in life by collecting five thousand blankets for the homeless in a single year.
Anna Camp, best known for her roles in Perfect, real blood and The good wife, will star in the film as Cyndi. The movie was written by Dallas screenwriter Larry Postel, who saw Cyndi and Phillip’s story on a TV news report years ago.
“I’m known for being a bit feisty and tenacious and I never thought anyone could play me, but Anna Camp nailed me 100 per cent. And Carson (Minniear), who played Phillip when he was ten and is from North Texas, has also done an incredible job,” Cyndi said in a press release.
The film is set to be released on December 12 in approximately 1,200 theaters nationwide.
“We are so proud of this film and know it will inspire many families across the country to do in their communities what we have done in our own community here in North Texas to not only help the homeless, but also to make people understand the mental health problems they face. Right now, more than ever, the world needs a great dose of empathy, and my prayer is that this film and our story will help,” Cyndi said in a press release.
