The host nation lost both games in their first-ever World Cup, falling to both Ecuador and Senegal, which saw them become the first team to be knocked out of the tournament, with one game still to play.
The Netherlands got off to a perfect start with a 2-0 win over Senegal, but couldn’t overcome Ecuador in their second game in a 1-1 draw.
Louis van Gaal’s side are currently top of Group A, but are level with the South American side, only ahead of them as the Dutch have registered fewer bookings.
A draw would be enough for the 2010 finalists to qualify for the quarter-finals, but Ecuador’s result against Senegal would have to be improved to be certain of finishing in first place in the group.
Tuesday’s game will be the first time the teams meet.
