An emotional Tommy Fleetwood shed tears after defending his Nedbank Golf Challenge title by winning the 2022 event at Sun City in South Africa.
The tournament had not taken place since the Englishman won it in 2019 for what was his last Tour win.
Fleetwood went 67 cards in the final round to finish 11 under, one shot ahead of New Zealander Ryan Fox, who shot 68.
Both players were tied early in the 18th, but Fleetwood shot a par four, while Fox bugged the holeshot with a five.
Fleetwood started the day three shots behind the leaders and his final round included an eagle on 14, four birdies and a bogey.
Earlier in the week it was announced he will captain Great Britain and Ireland at the first Hero Cup next year.
“It’s been a great week,” Fleetwood said. “I already had so many fond memories of that place and felt like I had a great connection with him, so that just adds to that.”
Play was halted on Friday due to bad weather and it happened again on Sunday, while Fleetwood was also sick during the event.
“It’s amazing that we got four innings at the end,” he added. “I felt good when we came back.
“It was touch and go Thursday morning, then Friday I felt like I had nothing at all in me. Didn’t really sleep that night, again really bad.
“The doctor, he was amazing because without him there was no chance on Thursday that I would have played.”
The win lifted Fleetwood to fourth in the DP World Tour standings, with compatriot Matt Fitzpatrick third. Fox is in second place, with Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy leading the charts.
