Brooklyn Nets superstar Kyrie Irving is likely to stay with the team after announcing Kevin Durant is staying put. Irving exercised his player option, but many believed the Nets would be willing to trade him if they left Durant. However, according to NBA insider Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson, the guard is focused on having a great season.
“Nets PG Kyrie Irving has been in the gym, focusing on bodybuilding and core fitness this offseason. Those close to the PG tell @BallySports. Irving is literally focused on having an MVP-caliber season.” more than just a dribbling feel,” Robinson wrote.
Robinson also wrote that the 2016 NBA champion wanted to stay with the Brooklyn Nets and prove his critics wrong this season.
“He wanted to play there from the start, and that’s where he’ll stay. And it’s been hinted to me that Irving has a desire to finish what he started. And one of the reasons for which he is dedicated to physical fitness. Relatives of the playmaker told me he was in the gym non-stop,” Robinson wrote.
The seven-time All-Star has chosen his $36 million player option despite rumors of a possible reunion with LeBron James. The rumors gained traction when news broke that the guard would deny the player’s option. Rumors predicted that Irving would sign a mid-level exception with the Lakers.
