Three young Namibian producers are enjoying incredible success on TikTok with their remix of the 2017 Selena Gomez and Kygo song “It ain’t me” used hundreds of thousands of times by app users.
It actually became popular on the internet and it’s a very recognizable track that many don’t realize was produced within these borders.
The social media video sharing site is known to connect people remotely, and with its ability to distribute music across the world, it is very popular for artists to use as a marketing tool.
For 17-year-old DJ Abux, whose real name is Sebastiano Gobs, and the two other producers of the song, Innocent (20) and Soulking (21), they feel the power of the application, with their track also approaching the bar. over 2 million views on YouTube. Speaking to the youngest of three, the excitement in his voice is palatable.
“I’ve been making Amapiano music since 2019 and I’ve always wanted people to recognize my work. So this exploding song is awesome. I’m very happy that people are finally noticing me, ”said the Khorixas-based artist, who added that he was also a bit overwhelmed with the collaboration requests he was receiving now.
After exchanging the track between them late last year, the trio initially chose not to download it due to copyright issues. Eventually it was uploaded to YouTube 3 months ago and spent the first few weeks with very few views.
The remix didn’t start gaining traction until June after popular South African TikTok user Thato Immaculate created a dance that many others have picked up and emulated, now dubbed the ‘# itaintmechallenge ”. It has also made many people believe that all three are from South Africa, although it is so popular in Nigeria.
For the future, Gobs hopes to develop and grow its business. He would also like to get the attention of Selena Gomez to secure the official rights to the remix.
