Miami, Florida – September 14, 2021 – The recently launched 24 hours of Le Mans Virtual Series, a joint venture between Motorsport Games Inc. (NASDAQ: MSGM) (“Motorsport Games”) – a racing game developer, publisher and provider of official motorsport racing series esports ecosystems across the world – and the ‘Automobile Club de l’ Ouest (“ACO”) – the creators and organizers of the world renowned 24 Hours of Le Mans and promoter of the FIA World Endurance Championship of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (the “FIA WEC ”), today announced the entry list for the 2021-22 Esports Endurance Championship.
The 38 team entries feature 177 driver names on the full season roster roster (see the full roster HERE) and include prominent champions and drivers from nearly all major motorsport disciplines, including Formula 1, the WEC, INDYCAR, the International Motor Sports Association (“IMSA”), Formula 2 and 3, Formula E and Extreme E, GT World Challenge and more. This season, open-wheel motorsport luminaries, such as the 2009 F1 champion, Jenson button, runner of F2, Jack Aitken, Formula E racer Sergio Sette Camara, current INDYCAR championship points leader, Alex Palou and INDYCAR driver and INDYCAR rookie of the year 2019, Felix Rosenqvist.
The Le Mans Virtual Series Driver List also features some of the most promising young professional drivers, including F2 and F3 stars. Liam Lawson, Bent Viscaal, Victor Martins, and Caio Collet, as well as a driver Beitske Visser, which races in W Series and WEC. The FIA WEC, the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the IMSA are represented by the former champion Bruno Senna, no more former F1 stars Stoffel Vandoorne, Harry Tincknell, Will Stevens, Matt Campbell, Yifei Ye, and many other top runners.
Demonstrating its versatility in racing, Timmy hansen – The World Rallycross and Extreme E driver will race alongside the winners of Japanese Super GT, Super Formula Championships and GT racers from around the world. The roster of professional racing drivers is rounded out with the winners of last year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual, who come together for the Rebellion GPX Williams team to defend their title. The teams making up the rest of the grid include Team Fordzilla, Red Bull Racing Esports, Team Redline, Panis Racing, Team Project 1, and WRT team, among others, as well as world championship and Le Mans award-winning brands, such as Alpine, Ferrari, Porsche, and BMW, Just to name a few.
Joining this list of esteemed professional racing drivers are elite competitors of the sim racing scene including popular names such as Michi Hoyer, Bono Huis, Jan von der Heyde, Joshua Rogers, and Kevin siggy. There will be 98 sim pilots in the full list of 177 pilots.
Here is an overview of the construction and format of the driver list:
- Teams must submit a list of 4 or 5 people for the full season
- A minimum of 2 drivers must be classified FIA (or its equivalent).
- The remaining pilots are sim pilots.
- For each of the first 4 rounds in a row, the teams will nominate 3 drivers from their full season roster 7 days before each race. Of these, one must be an FIA certified driver (or its equivalent).
- For the virtual final of the 24 Hours of Le Mans – scheduled for January 15e and 16e, 2022 in Birmingham, UK at the Autosport 2022 international motorsport show – rosters will increase to 4 drivers per entry with a minimum of 2 FIA classified drivers (or its equivalent). 20 more entries are expected for the live televised event, with some of the world’s best-known motorsport names set to appear.
Given the current uncertainty of the calendar in real-world races, the regulations provide for the replacement of FIA classified drivers if the initially named drivers are not available.
The combination of top names from these two racing worlds clashing on classic tracks, culminating in the virtual 24 Hours of Le Mans – the virtual equivalent of the world’s largest sports car event – promises to deliver Exciting and highly competitive endurance events that are guaranteed to thrill esports enthusiasts the world over. For these same fans, racing alongside the Le Mans Virtual Series will be the Le Mans Virtual Cup [see more info HERE] – an esports series where anyone with rFactor 2 can compete and win the opportunity to secure a place on the grid for the 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual.
