West Ham boss David Moyes says they are in contention for Champions League qualification.
As it stands, that’s exactly what they’ve done, sitting fourth and currently two points better than they were at this stage last season.
“I think we’re in good shape,” Moyes said. “It was the time of year when we were in good shape in January, February. It gave us a real chance to compete with the other teams.
“We want to hold on to their shirt tails and hopefully we can continue. We are in a good position to enter the second half of the season.
“Last season we started to think about what we might be able to do, but that was a bit later, rather when we were coming out of the January schedule and we thought there might be a real chance. We challenged players to build on it.
“So this season the challenge was set from the start. Can we take a few more points that could be close to the Champions League?
“It may not be enough, but if we get closer to the total points last season, we will have had a great season, so we will continue to fight, to push. But we know that we have a second half very difficult season ahead.”
