Mortal Kombat 1 officially releases tomorrow, although some have already been playing it since last week thanks to early access via the deluxe edition. While we already have a list of guest characters arriving in the first Kombat Pack such as Homelander and Omni-Man, fans are digging through the game’s dialogue files and unearthing some interesting finds. In particular, a dataminer appears to have discovered in-game dialogue specifically for iconic characters. Shout antagonist Ghostface.

Ghostface is the face (no pun intended) of the long-running character Shout horror film franchise created by writers Kevin Williamson and Wes Craven. There have been six films in the series so far, each carrying a new Ghostface killer (or multiple killers), so the villain’s appearance in Mortal Kombat 1 will likely not be based on a specific killer but will instead encompass the character’s overall personality.
That said, we still recommend taking this with a pinch of salt. Developer NetherRealm Studios has yet to confirm any other DLC fighters beyond the first Kombat pack and it may be a while before we hear official news on the second pack.
In related news, Mortal Kombat 1 recently received a launch trailer showing Shang Tsung in action. Actress Megan Fox will also voice the vampire Nitara in the game. Be sure to free up plenty of space on the PS5’s hard drive, as the installation requires over 100 GB of free space, not including patches for the first day. NetherRealm Studios has confirmed that crossplay will also not be supported at launch.
Mortal Kombat 1 will launch on September 19, 2023 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Nintendo Switch.
