It’s that time of year when Moravcik 67 – Celtic supporters come to Bhoy for all questions relating to the complexities of European competition – describes the situation we will face in the months to come. The big difference, as you know, is that there will be no need to worry about the vagaries of the qualifying rounds this year as Celtic are guaranteed a place in the group stages, pot 4 .
Looking at the three pots above is daunting to say the least, but that said, it’s the challenge Ange Postecoglou craves and relishes.
The Moravcik 67 thread posted tonight is shown below. Well worth a read…
1. How are the CL groups looking for next season. Teams in black qualify automatically. Those in red must qualify.
If Madrid win the CL, Ajax will be Pot 1, Liverpool Pot 2 (1st photo).
If Liverpool win the CL they will be Pot 1, Ajax Pot 2. (2nd picture)
2. Jar 3 may look slightly different. If Benfica do not qualify, a team will drop from Pot 4 – Rangers, if they qualify.
Pot 4 might look very different, as this is where most of the qualifiers will be. There’s not enough to take us forward, so Celtic will be Pot 4.

3. As you can see, the potential for our usual group of deaths is quite high. I already envisage a sort of abomination from Real Madrid, from Liverpool, from Inter Milan.
It would be nice to see the best players in the world at CP, but it would also be nice not to get pumped 6 times.
4. Money. Celtic will receive €15.64m just for showing up. We also receive a payment based on our 10-year coefficient.
Based on the projected teams to qualify in the 1st tweet images, that would be around €8m. But it depends on who qualifies.

5. We would get around €1.1m extra for each of Benfica and Olympiakos who don’t qualify. It could therefore go up to more than 10 million euros at best.
But it could also drop by around €1.1m for each of Monaco, Dynamo Kyiv and PSV who qualify, although only 2 of them can.
6. Frankfurt winning the EL means they have passed us in the 10-year standings, at a cost of €1.1m. But that prevented Rangers from qualifying automatically, which would have cost us around €3.5m in the Market Pool. So fair enough.
Of course, if Rangers qualify, we get a double whammy.

7. If Copenhagen qualify, we will be above them in the 10-year standings solely based on the bonus points we get for winning Lisbon in 1967.
This brings us around 1.1 million euros. The Lions are still contributing to the club, more than 50 years later.
8. As mentioned above, we also receive money for the Scottish market pool. The amount has dropped recently. It’s probably worth around €7m for Scotland.
It’s up to us if Rangers don’t qualify. If they qualify, we share it. It’s complex. Easier to say we will get 55%, they will get 45%.

9. Finally, we receive money for our performance – 2.8 million euros per win, 930,000 € per draw.
It is clearly much more difficult to win a match in CL. But 1 CL win is worth more than 4 EL wins.
To put it into perspective, we’ve earned around €2m from performance payouts in EL groups this season.
10. All of this before our usual revenue from tickets and sponsorship etc. So there is a lot of money coming to us.
Hard to quantify right now, but you’re probably talking about 25-32 million euros before even considering performance payments and ticket sales.

11. Other Scottish clubs. Rangers start in CL QR3, and will face Monaco, Midtjylland
Sturm Graz, Royal Union SG, Fenerbahce or AEK Larnaca.
In the playoffs, they could also meet Dynamo Kyiv or PSV, as well as the above, depending on who succeeds.
12. Hearts start in the EL playoffs. The draw is quite strange these days.
They could initially be drawn against Dynamo Kyiv, Midtjylland, Fenerbahce, AEK Larnaca (depending on who gets eliminated from CL QR2), or Partizan Belgrade or Slovacko.

13. Otherwise, they could then be drawn against an eliminated QR2 team from the CL Qualifiers Road Champions.
So who the hell knows who they’ll get. It could be anyone from Dinamo Zagreb to the Hibernians of Malta. Which would be kinda funny. Alright, maybe not.
14. If knocked out of the OP, Hearts will fall into conference groups. They have a chance of being in pot 3, but can also come back to pot 4 depending on who else qualifies on their side.
It’s a big chance for them, and they can make money doing it.

15. Neil Lennon’s new side Omonia Nicosia are in the Cyprus Cup final. If they win, it looks like they’ll be in the EL PO alongside Hearts.
Frankfurt’s win knocked them out of the QR3, so it doesn’t look like there will be a Tynecastle welcome party for him.
16. Motherwell starts in QR2 of the Conference and will be seeded. It will really be the luck of the draw, as there is a mix of teams from places like Denmark, Sweden, Poland and Turkey, and another batch from places like San Marino, Malta, etc. .

17. If successful, they will be joined in QR3 by Dundee Utd. Both won’t be ranked and could face Basel, Prague sides, Young Boys, PAOK, AZ, Basaksehir, Anderlecht, Twente, etc.
It depends on the draw, of course, but it takes a long time to make the groups.
18. A big test ahead for Scotland. We will start the season ranked 8th, with a 10 point gap to 7th and a smaller 4.9 point gap to Belgium in 10th.
Unfortunately, the higher you go in the rankings, the more difficult it becomes to generate the points to maintain the position.

19. We will play again in fewer qualifiers next season. We usually get a few points from these. We all need to contribute, now more than ever. Especially the 3 teams in the groups.
And yes, that includes Celtic. Unfortunately, that’s easier said than done in the CL.
