MOORE COUNTY, North Carolina (WTVD) — Intentional acts of vandalism left tens of thousands of people in Moore County sleeping Saturday night without power.
The Moore County Sheriff’s Office said the outages began just after 7 p.m. due to damage to several substations in the county.
Sheriff Ronnie Fields said the massive outage is currently believed to have been caused by foul play. Anyone with information about what happened is asked to contact the Moore County Sheriff’s Office at 910-947-2931.
About 38,000 people lost power and faced freezing temperatures overnight. Duke Energy said it expects power to be restored around 10 a.m. Sunday evening.
Moore County public safety officials asked those affected in a tweet to refrain from calling 911 to report an emergency.
