A mother of two has died in a horrific car crash after a wheel fell from a truck and flew into the windshield of the car she was driving.
Carol Hardy, 52, was driving home from a baseball game with her 17-year-old son Kaden Hardy in New Caney, Texas when the rogue wheel struck their vehicle around 7 p.m. Thursday (time local).
Fox 26 Houston reports that the sudden impact sent Ms Hardy’s car into the back of another vehicle with a father and three children inside.
Ms Hardy was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her teenage son, who was sleeping in the front passenger seat at the time of the crash, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
The father and his three children from Ms Hardy’s rear vehicle were taken to hospital in stable condition, according to Fox 26.
The driver of the truck who lost his wheel was not injured.
Footage from the sequel shows Ms Hardy’s vehicle with the roof cut off, apparently by emergency services trying to extract the mother and son from the wreckage.
Ms Hardy’s husband Ron and younger daughter Caly were “completely heartbroken” by the tragic incident and a GoFundMe page was set up to help pay for Ms Hardy’s funeral and Kaden’s hospital bills. .
“She was her kids’ biggest fan, and probably the nicest person you’ve ever met,” reads the GoFundMe page which has so far raised over $ 26,000.
Mr Hardy was overwhelmed by the support his family has received since the accident and thanked people for their generosity.
