Israel Adesanya called Darren Till “a p ****” for rejecting the opportunity to fight Yoel Romero when he had the opportunity.
The Englishman made the decision to switch to middleweight last year after being arrested by Jorge Masvidal at UFC London, rather than forcing his body to reach the welterweight limit of 170 pounds.
Having failed in his attempt to win gold in the UFC against Tyron Woodley, it seemed inevitable that Till would eventually challenge the best in the world at 185 pounds.

Despite an extremely difficult fight against Kelvin Gastelum in New York last year, the Scouser joked that he would never take the 42-year-old Cuban when he “scared” me.
Till initially didn’t want to be part of Romero. “F *** this guy. I don’t want to fight him, “he said at the UFC 244 post-fight press conference.
But Adesanya may have taken the joke a little too literally and, before defending his middleweight title against Romero at UFC 248, explained on the UFC series that he decided to raise the challenge against a man no one wants to face.
“There is this scene in [2004 film] Troy, where this child is going, “This barbarian is the tallest I have ever seen – I would not fight him,” said Adesanya.

“And then Achilles said,” That’s why no one will remember your name “- that’s it.
“No one will remember people who don’t chase him; people who try to fight, people who have their managers tell them not to fight this guy [Romero].
“And yes, he just lost, but I don’t want to sit and wait on the shelf for the monkey juice [Costa] to get better after nine months or miraculously after three months.
“Whatever, I just wanted to fight. And he’s a guy everyone’s afraid to call.

In an interview with Ariel Helwani for EPSN, Romero admitted that he found Till’s calls hilarious and was confident that the Englishman would fight him if the call came.
Either way, we can be sure that “The Gorilla” will be watching the proceedings closely at the T-Mobile Arena on Saturday night in Sin City.
