JACKSON, miss., January 23, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Govt. Tate Reeves became the first governor of the country to proclaim 23 Jan-Jan 29 as School Choice Week 2022. His official declaration of “Mississippi School Choice Week” marks the tenth consecutive year as governor of Mississippi proclaimed the Week, which raises awareness of K-12 education options.

Governor Reeve’s proclamation highlights the importance of from Mississippi diverse educational environments, dedicated teaching professionals, and a commitment to continuously improving the quality of K-12 education. The proclamation coincides with the national observance of National School Choice Week, the largest annual celebration of K-12 school choice.

Mississippi families and schools will mark the Week with nearly 300 events and activities. From roadshows and rallies to home or school events, the diverse celebrations echo the diverse learning needs of students across the state. More than 26,000 activities were independently planned for the week across the country, raising awareness of educational opportunities and providing parents of all backgrounds and income levels with clear information about their learning options.

“Mississippi parents and educators are eager for students to learn and thrive, and Governor Reeve’s proclamation recognizes the vital role school choice plays in this regard,” said Andre Campanelle, chair of National School Choice Week. “We are grateful for the proclamation and hope Mississippians will use the week to explore their options and celebrate wonderful learning programs.”

National School Choice Week shines a light on effective K-12 education options for children. As a nonprofit effort, the Week also focuses on traditional public, charter, magnetic, online, private, and home schooling options. Each January, participants plan tens of thousands of events and activities –– such as school fairs, open houses and student showcases –– to raise awareness of school choice in the 50 States. Throughout the year, National School Choice Week develops resources and guides to help families find schools or learning environments for their children. The effort is apolitical and non-partisan and does not advocate for legislation.
