Matt Smith had a hat-trick in the first half to secure a 3-0 win at Millwall in Nottingham Forest on Friday evening.
The 30-year-old opened the scoring when he headed for Murray Wallace in the 20th minute.
Smith’s second goal came under happy circumstances when Jayson Molumby’s shot shot out of his foot and into the net.
And the match was almost won when Smith joined Shane Ferguson’s corner in the 33rd minute.
The result placed Millwall in seventh place, just two points from a play-off, while Nottingham Forest missed the opportunity to close the gap on Leeds, second.
