Miley Cyrus has put her recent touring remarks into context after some fans took her words as an expression of ingratitude rather than exhaustion.
“For clarity, I feel connected to my fans NOW more than ever. When I win, WE win,” Cyrus wrote on Instagram Wednesday. at a concert, my fans are deep in my heart. I’m constantly creating and innovating new ways to stay in touch with the audience I love, without sacrificing my own essentials.
“It has nothing to do with a lack of appreciation for the fans and everything to do with the fact that I just don’t want to get ready in a locker room,” she continued. “I just don’t want to sleep on a moving bus. It’s not what’s best for me right now.
What first ruffled fans’ feathers were the comments she made in the latest issue of British Vogue while addressing the decade since her last major arena tour in 2014.
“Singing for hundreds of thousands of people isn’t really what I like. There is no link. There is no security,” she told the magazine. “It’s not natural either. It’s so isolating because if you’re in front of 100,000 people, you’re alone.
Offended fans responded online, with one cynically saying she would return to the stage when she needed the money. Meanwhile, one Instagram follower seemed to resent the freedom Miley has to take a step back from her work, writing, “I feel very privileged to just come out and say this is what’s best. for you. It’s a job and like any other job there are parts we don’t like but we do them anyway. Touring is that for artists, you put down an album and tour it.
However, fans were quick to overwhelm the negative comments, noting that Miley was just the “queen of [setting] healthy boundaries.
“Set those boundaries for what’s best for YOU queen, we love you,” one fan replied, while another said “true fans will support you.” Others pointed out that Miley has been in the public eye non-stop since she was a child and she had every right to take a break.
Although she hasn’t filmed, Cyrus said her love affair with her fans isn’t over.
“Playing for YOU was one of the best days of my life, and we will continue this journey together as we have for nearly two decades,” she wrote.
“This is proof that his words were taken out of context, and there will always be people who will not be happy with THIS response, but they don’t matter,” another fan wrote. “You’re doing, girl.”
