A total metamorphosis! Miley Cyrus has had quite a dramatic style transformation since stepping into the spotlight with her hit 2006 show Hannah Montana.
Because while she may have started out in sweet dresses and cowboy boots inspired by her country roots, she’s made it clear in the years since that she’s not afraid to shy away from shock value when it comes to its style.
In a behind-the-scenes video with ScreenSlam in August 2016, she revealed that her bare-bones looks on stage and out-of-the-box fashion statements are actually a form of distraction.
“The way I dress to distract — it’s a comforting thing for me,” she said. “I think style can be something that can make you feel comfortable. This is something not to have everyone staring at you. It is [fashion] gives them something to look at.
As the “Party in the USA” singer taught We Always ready for a style surprise (think: her Simone Harouche ball gown at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards), she’s also fully equipped to rock a gorgeous dress or sophisticated costume.
Because according to a 2021 interview, she did it with vogueCyrus’ varied style reflects her personality quite well at all times.
“For me, fashion is a bit like turning around. It’s like carrying his heart, carrying his guts, carrying his values, carrying his identity, carrying his pain, carrying his joy,” she revealed. “There’s something childish about it. you’re so fearless when you dress up when you’re a kid. You don’t think about what anyone will think of you or judge.
She added: “It’s just a matter of expression and how you feel that day. There’s a fearlessness. And so when I dress I try to think like my inner child and d to be genuine and genuine in everything I wear.
From ultra-girly ensembles like her brown, princess-cut Zac Posen tulle gown at the 2018 Grammys to her bondage-inspired leather look at the 2019 iHeartRadio Music Festival, Cyrus is definitely not sticking to any particular aesthetic.
So without further ado, keep scrolling to see how the “Slide Away” singer’s style evolved from her Disney Channel days to her current edge following the release of her album. Endless summer vacation in March 2023.
