Miles Teller says he broke protocol when meeting Prince William and Kate Middleton: ‘Right off the bat I screwed up’
Miles Teller said he broke protocol by crossing paths with the Duke and Duchess of Wales, Prince William and Kate Middleton.
The 35-year-old actor, appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday, opened up about meeting the royal couple in London at a Royal Film Performance screening for his film Top Gun: Maverick last May.
Teller, who played Lt. Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw in the film, said he and his teammates were given a list of “do’s and don’ts,” joking, “There’s a lot of etiquette …and I’m nice I had a sheet so I wouldn’t mess it up.

But Teller erred, as he put it, “From the get-go, I messed up: You’re not supposed to reach out from the get-go unless they do.”
“But I felt the vibe, so I’m like ‘I’m going in, I’m going in.
The Whiplash star called the royal couple “very disarming” when meeting them.
“I was lost,” he said. ‘In the eyes of Prince William… I mean, blue like the bluest ocean, Jimmy, what do you want? Bora Bora… and Kate is beautiful and very cordial and behaves so well, yeah, majestic… but with William I don’t know, I lost consciousness.

Teller is set to host this week’s season premiere of Saturday Night Live on October 1, with musical guest Kendrick Lamar.
