Mike Tyson insisted he would have lost a fantastic fight to Muhammad Ali had they both met in their prime numbers.
At the start of last year, when all sport was put on hold by the coronavirus pandemic, the age-old boxing debate resurfaced on several occasions.
First, current heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua said on a JD Sports Instagram Live: “It’s quite interesting because in the days of Muhammad Ali’s heavyweight reign, heavyweights were classified as heavyweights. cruise of the Mike Tyson era.
“With Lennox Lewis, you know how they started to get fat, hence the reason why in the amateurs they then created a super heavyweight division.
“The current amateur heavyweight division is what we classify as the heavyweight division.
“So Muhammad Ali would not have been a full-fledged heavyweight.
“So let’s say we strengthened Muhammad Ali and put size and strength on him, I really believe Mike Tyson would have won.
“The reason being that when you watch the fight with Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali, you see a certain Frazier-style Tyson-esque.
“Tyson used to study this Joe Frazier. The move, the hooks. He managed to bring Ali down in the fight, it was a very difficult fight for Ali.
“And I just think Mike Tyson was better educated, times have changed, Mike Tyson was more developed. More science, more information.
“So I think Mike Tyson would have won, IMHO.”
After AJ’s comments, the World Boxing Super Series simulated Tyson vs Ali on Fight Night Champion, with “ Iron Mike ” leading the way.
When told about it, Tyson dismissed the idea at Yahoo Sports and said, “I know this is a fantastic game.
“Most likely, I would win the fantasy, I wouldn’t win the real fight.
“Ali is the greatest there is.”
