Microsoft Teams mobile apps will soon benefit from the immersive player functionality currently available on Teams desktop apps and on the web. The feature allows users to listen to posts and messages in the Teams app on iOS and Android.
The feature appears on the Microsoft 365 roadmap. It could arrive as early as June 2021, although the dates on the roadmap are still subject to change. Here is the full description of the feature:
Microsoft Teams: Support for Immersive Players for Mobile
Immersive Reader, which uses proven personalization techniques to support reading across ages and abilities, is coming to the Teams iOS and Android apps. You can now hear posts and chat messages read aloud using the Immersive Reader on the Teams mobile apps. This feature was previously only available on web and desktop applications.
The description specifically only mentions listening to messages and chats aloud, but it will likely bring some other new features as well. The immersive reader on other Microsoft apps lets you change text focus, select background colors, and change spacing. The main goal of Immersive Reader is to make the text easier to read, which would fit naturally into Microsoft Teams.
Microsoft announced that Immersive Reader is on its way to PowerPoint, SharePoint, OneDrive, and MakeCode earlier this year.
