Earlier this year, Microsoft rolled out support for live transcripts in meetings. For now, live transcripts only work with scheduled meetings, but that is about to change. According to the Microsoft 365 roadmap, unscheduled meetings could benefit from support for live transcripts as early as July 2021 (via Neowin).
In addition to adding support for live transcripts for unscheduled meetings, Teams will soon support live transcripts in channel meetings. The associated functionality is also described in the Microsoft 365 roadmap. Live transcripts in channel meetings are also expected to arrive in July 2021.
As with all Microsoft 365 Roadmap entries, dates are subject to change. The roadmap describes Microsoft’s feature plans, but does not state firm dates for any features to be released.

These new transcription options should be helpful. Although many meetings are scheduled, it is okay to jump into a meeting. In addition to making meetings more accessible, live transcripts help everyone follow a meeting.
Live transcripts for scheduled meetings assign text to specific people. Descriptions of upcoming transcription features don’t mention speaker attribution, but they will likely support it.
