Just days after releasing its usual crop of Patch Tuesday updates for all supported Windows versions, Microsoft announced today It releases an out-of-band update for Windows 10, version 1909 and the corresponding Windows Server version 1909. The update with KB article KB5001028 and build number 18363.1379 provides a one-time fix for Wi-Fi connection issues when using WPA3.
The issue is with Build 18363.1350 which served as an optional update for users in January. For those who didn’t choose to install this release, the same packages were included in this month’s Patch Tuesday updates, which may have prompted more users to report the issues when they have started to update their devices. The company notes in the issue log that the issue only affects WPA3 connections. The update also retains the known issues documented in the Patch Tuesday updates.
Here is the official changelog:
Addresses an issue that causes Stop error 0x7E in nwifi.sys when you try to use a Wi-Fi Protected Access 3 (WPA3) connection. This problem occurs after you install KB4598298 or KB4601315.
Additionally, since the issue is only Windows 10 version 1909, one of the workarounds suggested by the Redmond giant was to upgrade to Windows 10 May 2020 (2004 version) or newer update. With version 1909 reaching end of support in May of this year, it’s no surprise that the company is starting to push more users to the latest versions. After support ends, all supported versions of the operating system will receive the same maintenance updates, since 21H1 – expected to be released this spring – could also be an activation package, just like version 20H2. .
As for today’s cumulative update, it will be served automatically to users through Windows Update. You can also access the update catalog here to download the update manually.
